Yamina Katariya, MS

Yamina Katariya is a Bioinformatics Scientist in the Thorsson-Shmulevich Lab, where she works on cancer research as part of the Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN). She earned her undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. While working as a Software/Firmware Engineering Intern at a biomedical device startup, she developed an interest in working in a laboratory setting and applying engineering to biomedical research. After graduating, Yamina joined the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in 2022 as a Software Engineer and Lab Services Supervisor in the Environmental, Health & Safety Department. She gained experience in laboratory operations and regulatory compliance while earning her Master’s degree in Data Science from the University of Washington. She later joined the Thorsson-Shmulevich Lab in 2025, where she applies her background in software engineering and data science to database management, pipeline development, and data standardization for cancer research.
